The Management of Benue Links (Nig.) Limited has confirmed an attack on one of its vehicles on Saturday, January 10.
Johnson Ehi Daniel, Information Officer of the company, in a statement issued on Sunday, January 11, says suspected gunmen attacked a Benue Links vehicle number PP974 at the Burnt Bricks area of Otukpo at about 7:00pm, January 10.
According to the statement, “no life was lost during the incident. However, (three) 3 passengers sustained gunshot injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo, where they are responding positively to treatment.”
Sir Alexander Aondohemba Fanafa, Benue Links General Manager, was seen with the injured at the hospital in Otukpo, alongside the Otukpo Business Manager, Mr Edache Joseph.
The state transporter will bear the cost of treatment and logistics, Sir Fanafa disclosed.
“The General Manager assured the passengers that Benue Links Nigeria Limited will bear the full cost of their medical treatment and will also ensure their safe transportation to their respective destinations once they are certified fit to travel by medical personnel,” Mr Johnson’s statement further reads.
Sir Fanafa, who addressed the company’s staffers at Otukpo, reiterated that the company’s ban on night travel remains in full force. He, therefore, warned that any driver found violating the directive would face appropriate disciplinary action.
In addition, the General Manager urged drivers to be security-conscious at all times, always to obey traffic regulations, to drive responsibly, and to be courteous to passengers.
He reassures the public of the company’s commitment to passenger safety and to work closely with security agencies to ensure safer travel for all.
