Guma, Giza border councils strengthen collaboration to tackle insecurity
The Executive Chairman of Guma Local Government Council (LGC) in Benue State, Mr. Maurice Orwough, on Friday, July 17, met with the Sole Administrator of Giza Development Area Council in Nasarawa State, Mr. Solomon Omaku, to strengthen collaboration in addressing the security challenges affecting communities on the Guma–Nasarawa border.
Mr. Orwough stressed that security is everyone’s responsibility, noting that lasting peace can only be achieved through close collaboration among neighbouring states, local government councils, traditional institutions, security agencies, and local communities.
He urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies and to remain law-abiding at all times.
Mr. Omaku welcomed the Guma chairman and his delegation, reaffirming his commitment to working closely with his Benue counterpart and security agencies to strengthen security along the shared border.
He assured that his administration would continue to support all efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace in the affected communities.
According to a statement by Mr. Ernest Tortiv, Personal Assistant to the Guma chairman on Communications and Strategy, the meeting focused on deepening cooperation through improved intelligence sharing, enhanced synergy among security agencies, and coordinated measures to prevent criminal activities and safeguard residents of border communities.
Following the meeting, Mr. Orwough visited Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking refuge in Giza, where he expressed sympathy over their plight and assured them that government remained mindful of their suffering.
He encouraged the displaced persons to remain hopeful, law-abiding and united, assuring them that efforts were ongoing to improve security and create conditions that would enable them to return safely to their ancestral homes.
