The Kwande Parliament has thrown its weight behind the candidacy of former House of Representatives member, Mr. Robert Tyough a.k.a Bob Tyough, urging him to use his experience and political platforms to attract more development to Kwande.
The non-partisan group made the call on Saturday, September 5, during an interface with Tyough in Makurdi, following his emergence as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) flag bearer for 2027 Benue North East Senatorial District election.
President of Kwande Parliament, Comrade Bito Philip Tertindi, congratulated Tyough on his emergence and challenged him to do more for Kwande if elected to the Senate in 2027.
Tertindi said the organisation was established by like-minded sons and daughters of Kwande to promote unity, collective interest and development of the area.
He commended Tyough for his previous contributions to Kwande, including his service as a board member of the Federal Medical Centre, board chairman and federal lawmaker.
However, he noted that Kwande still faced significant developmental challenges requiring stronger political advocacy and effective representation.
“Kwande still has serious developmental challenges. We expect you to do more if given another opportunity,” Tertindi told Tyough.
Other speakers, including Hon. Ikyoon Mathias, Comrade Mver Shawon and Comrade Bito Michael Aondoyima, urged the former lawmaker to deploy every available platform to attract meaningful projects and opportunities to Kwande.
They said the Parliament would engage politicians, elected officials, government appointees, NGOs, security agencies, traditional rulers and religious leaders in its quest to advance the interests of Kwande.
The group also called on political parties and candidates ahead of the 2027 elections to make issues, policies and development—not personal attacks—the centrepiece of their campaigns.
Responding, Tyough promised to leverage his experience in the National Assembly to deliver more impactful representation if elected senator.
The former lawmaker said despite being a first-timer in the House of Representatives, he was able to attract several projects to the Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency.
He expressed confidence that his experience and greater seniority in the National Assembly would position him to deliver even more for the people if elected in 2027.
Tyough also charged members of Kwande Parliament to remain united and focused, stressing that unity was essential to strengthening the voice and bargaining power of Kwande.
Earlier, Engr. Iyorhen Isaac and Hon. Daniel Dzoho urged the group to remain selfless and committed to its objectives, saying its development mission was demanding but achievable through unity, dedication and sacrifice.
