The Mzough U Tiv United Kingdom (MUTUK) has honoured its Immediate Past President, Prof Kohol Shadrach Iornem, with the MUTUK Award for Visionary Leadership and Community Renaissance, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the growth and transformation of the organisation.
The prestigious award was conferred on Prof Kohol at the 2026 MUTUK Tiv Day Annual Conference and Cultural Fiesta, held on Saturday, September 5, at The Jo Richardson Community School, Gale Street, Dagenham, United Kingdom.
The award, presented during the Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony, recognised Prof Kohol’s leadership and his role in laying the foundation for what the organisation described as a new era in the life of MUTUK.
During his tenure as president, Prof Kohol was credited with providing purposeful leadership, advancing institutional renewal and articulating a clear vision that gave the association renewed direction and momentum.
MUTUK said the emergence of the organisation as a vibrant and forward-looking community association was, to a significant extent, built on the foundations established during Prof Kohol’s tenure.
In a letter jointly signed by the current President, Chief Bemdoo Aleva, and the Secretary General, Dr Rebecca Torkwase Kral, on behalf of the Executive Committee and the entire membership, the association expressed its appreciation for Prof Kohol’s service and leadership.
The association described the honour as a reflection of the enduring impact of his contribution to the development of MUTUK and the wider Tiv community in the United Kingdom.
Dr Kral said Prof Kohol’s contribution had created a lasting legacy for the organisation, adding: “Your legacy will continue to inspire future generations of MUTUK leadership.”
The recognition comes as MUTUK continues to strengthen its role as a platform for promoting Tiv cultural identity, unity, community development and the interests of Tiv people in the United Kingdom.
Prof Kohol served as President of MUTUK from 2019 to 2023, during which he championed initiatives aimed at strengthening the association’s institutional structures and enhancing its engagement with the Tiv community.
The 2026 Tiv Day celebration brought together members of the Tiv community, guests and stakeholders for a programme featuring cultural activities, community engagement, the annual conference and an awards ceremony.
MUTUK also honoured other members and contributors whose services and commitment have made significant contributions to the development and activities of the organisation.
The awards, according to the association, underscore the importance of recognising individuals whose leadership, service and dedication continue to strengthen the Tiv community in the diaspora.
