Unknown gunmen have again attacked a community in Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, leaving one person dead and several others injured.
The Benue State Police Command, in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said the attack occurred in Ondo Ugboju, Otukpo LGA.
According to the police, the community’s youth chairman, Sunday Ogoh, was killed during the attack, while the head of Ondo and other injured victims were taken to hospital for treatment.
The command said tactical teams, senior police officers, vigilante groups, Civil Protection Guards, and other security agencies have been deployed to the area, with efforts ongoing to apprehend those responsible.
Meanwhile, Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, visited Otukpo to sympathise with residents affected by the recent attacks. He urged community members to remain vigilant, report suspicious movements promptly, and work closely with security agencies to prevent future incidents.
The governor also visited the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo, where victims of the earlier attacks on Akpachi and Otukpo-Nobi communities are receiving treatment. According to his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia directed that the state government should ensure comprehensive medical care for all the victims.
