The Tiv People Worldwide Advancement Foundation (TPWAF) has fixed Saturday, June 27, as the date for the 6th Edition of the Tiv Spelling Bee Competition (Gesa U Sangen ABAACA).
TNT understands that the competition is open for Basic Seven to Basic Nine (Junior School) students.
Mr Craig Ukeyima, TPWAF Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, says the 6th edition “marks a renewed commitment to strengthening Tiv language interest and heritage preservation among the next generation.”
According to the BoT Chairman, “After five impactful years, the Tiv Spelling Bee has become more than a competition. It is a cultural movement aimed at further increasing Tiv language interest among youths this year and beyond, promoting our culture, and consolidating community engagement for heritage preservation.
“This edition will consolidate partnerships and inspire a new generation of Tiv language custodians.”
There are prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions, with special awards for the overall best student, the best Tiv word-speller, the best female participant, and the best male participant.
Organisers say the competition will take place at Queen of the Rosary Secondary School, Gboko, under the theme “Celebrating Tiv Heritage through Language,” with Mr Amos Atindiga, a passionate Tiv advancement advocate, as the guest speaker.
