A journalist with Daily Post, Mr. Rexino Ogwuche, has warned elected public officials, particularly legislators, against engaging in campaigns of calumny and the politicisation of insecurity, saying such tactics will not earn any candidate public support in the 2027 general elections.
Mr. Ogwuche made the remarks while commenting on the utilisation of constituency allowances by elected representatives and the security situation in Benue State.
According to Mr. Ogwuche, “cunningly intelligent elected public officials whose use of their constituency allowances remains mysterious and self-serving are weaponising insecurity as a manual to intimidate Governor Hyacinth Alia.”
Rather than exploiting what he described as “the insecurity that Tinubu cannot address” for political advantage, Mr. Ogwuche challenged elected officials at all levels to demonstrate the practical steps they have taken within their federal constituencies and senatorial districts to support ordinary neighbourhood vigilantes in tackling insecurity.
He further cautioned that “nobody will be allowed to use campaign of calumny to ingratiate themselves to the people,” urging political actors to focus on constructive contributions rather than divisive rhetoric.
