Peace talks fail as Iran rejects US ‘terms’

Date:

Iran and the US have failed to reach a peace deal after Iranian negotiators rejected the terms proposed by the US after lengthy peace talks in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Both sides had agreed to a ceasefire deal last Wednesday amidst apocalyptic threats from the US President, who said he would destroy Iranian civilisation.

According to US Vice-President JD Vance, Tehran’s negotiating team did not accept Washington’s terms. He said “this is our final and best offer.”

Both sides are claiming to have won the war, making the deal impossible as both sides left essentially blaming the other for their failure.

The US cited Iran’s failure to commit to never having a nuclear weapon as the key stumbling block.

Iran has always denied wanting the ultimate deterrent, but two wars in the space of a year will have emboldened those calling for it, reports the BBC.

Meanwhile, Iran has called on the US to refrain from “excessive demands” and accept Iran’s “legitimate rights and interests.”
