Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has arrived in London, UK, to accompany the remains of former President Muhamadu Buhari to Nigeria.
Buhari, a former military ruler and self-styled converted democrat who returned to power through elections, died at 82 in a London clinic on Sundsy, 13 July.
Upon his death, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his successor directed Vice President Shetima, alongside Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to the UK to accompany the former President’s body back to Nigeria.
The Vice President was received by Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar.
Buhari achieved a historic victory in 2015, becoming Nigeria’s first opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent. In 2019, he was re-elected for another four-year term. His election victory in 2015 came after three failed attempts.
Never a natural politician, Buhari retained a reputation for personal honesty – a rare feat for a politician in Nigeria.
