Disregard disgruntled elements calling for sack of BIRS chair – Jemgbagh APC Elders

Date:

The Jemgbagh APC Elders Forum has urged the Governor of Benue State, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, and the people of the state to disregard calls by what it described as “disgruntled elements” seeking the removal of Mr. Joseph Kwaghgba, Executive Chairman of the Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS).

Addressing a press conference in Gboko on Monday, August 3, the forum stated that the campaign against the BIRS chairman does not reflect the views of the Jemgbagh community. Instead, it attributed the campaign to “a disgruntled individual of questionable character” who, it alleged, has consistently attacked supporters of Governor Alia’s administration.

The elders expressed unwavering confidence in Kwaghgba, commending his outstanding performance as Executive Chairman of BIRS. They described him as approachable, effective, and dependable, noting that he has consistently delivered on every assignment entrusted to him by the state government. They also praised his recent role as Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the funeral of former Jemgbagh Chairman, Elder Iyorshe Orngudwem, saying he successfully coordinated the event despite the presence of diverse interest groups.

In their statement, the elders also acknowledged Kwaghgba’s initiative, the Kwaghgba Sha Alia 2027 Movement, describing it as a personal effort to strengthen public confidence in Governor Alia’s administration. They said the movement has gained significant support across the Jemgbagh area and reflects Kwaghgba’s commitment to the governor’s re-election bid.

The forum warned the individual behind the campaign against the BIRS chairman to reconsider what it described as an unpopular position or risk facing the “full wrath of the Jemgbagh people.” It maintained that Kwaghgba is “the only pillar and support system” for both the community and its traditional leaders, and therefore deserves continued support rather than criticism.

The elders also congratulated Governor Alia on securing the APC governorship nomination for the 2027 election. They described his victory in the party’s direct primary as a reaffirmation of the confidence reposed in him by the people of Benue State.

They further commended the governor for appointing qualified sons and daughters of Jemgbagh to key positions, including Joseph Kwaghgba as Executive Chairman of BIRS and Mrs. Theresa Torgba Nyitse as Accountant-General, saying the appointments demonstrate his commitment to inclusive governance.

The forum also praised Governor Alia for improving infrastructure across the Jemgbagh area through the Township Renewal Initiative. It reiterated its unwavering support for his administration and pledged to mobilise support for his re-election in 2027, while encouraging him to remain focused on delivering the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Benue State.
