A Kano-based commentator, Comrade Innocent Anebi, has called on the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro (Benue South/PDP), to account for what he alleged was over 30 Billion Naira (N30b) allocated to the senatorial district during the lawmaker’s seven years in office, while accusing the senator of politicising the recent killings in the district.
Comrade Anebi made the allegations in his reaction on the subject, “The Politicisation of Benue South Killings & Why Senator Abba Moro Must Account for the N30B He Has Received on Our Behalf.”
He argued that insecurity has become a national challenge that has overwhelmed governments at all levels, saying it was unfair to hold Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, solely responsible for the security situation in Benue South while excluding the Federal Government. He alleged that Senator Moro only became vocal over the killings as the 2027 general elections draw nearer, describing the senator’s criticism of the governor as politically motivated.
The commentator further alleged that Senator Moro had failed to provide meaningful support to security agencies and local vigilantes combating insecurity in Benue South. He claimed that the senator only distributed motorcycles to security agencies after criticism from the APC senatorial candidate for Benue South, Dr. Francis Ottah Agbo, and questioned whether the motorcycles had reached the intended beneficiaries. Comrade Anebi also alleged that Moro’s visit to the attacked Otukpo-Nobi community came only after public criticism and did not result in any concrete intervention.
Questioning the senator’s stewardship, Comrade Anebi challenged Senator Moro to explain how what he described as over N30b meant for Benue South had been utilised. He further alleged that key infrastructure projects, including the Otukpo–Obi–Oju Road, had remained abandoned despite repeated budgetary allocations, adding that communities across the nine Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the district had seen little evidence of development.
Comrade Anebi also alleged that Senator Moro remained silent over insecurity during the administration of former Governor Samuel Ortom but had become outspoken against Governor Alia due to political disagreements. He further claimed that the senator was dissatisfied with decisions of the current administration regarding appointments and local government affairs. The allegations, however, have not been independently verified by TNT.
The commentator maintained that the security challenges confronting Benue and Nigeria should not be blamed on one individual, arguing that all relevant state actors share responsibility for tackling the crisis.
He therefore urged Senator Moro to stop what he described as the politicisation of insecurity, account for his stewardship, and collaborate with Governor Alia, President Bola Tinubu, local government chairmen and security agencies to restore peace and accelerate development in Benue South.
