Rights lawyer and due process campaigner, Bem Ephraim Orlunan Ayati, Esq., has accepted to contest the 2027 Ukum State Constituency election because, to effect a positive change for his people, he must take part in the direct decision-making process.
Ayati hails from Ngyen, Ngenev, Borikyo, Ukum Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2014, having obtained his LL.B from Father Adasu University (formerly Benue State University), Makurdi, and his B.L at the Nigerian Law School, and has since been practising law with a special bias towards human rights advocacy.
The rule of law enthusiast, who is yielding to calls to stand in the election, told TNT that for so long a time he “had stood afar and merely watched with bated breath as political decisions affecting my people were taken, some of which impacted negatively on their growth and development. These decisions, sadly, vicariously affected me, too, in the long run.”
Those rooting for Ayati are selling him as the legislator cloaked in urbanity, cosmopolitan in worldview, very vocal, and thoroughly learned in the art of law-making and the practical application of the Law through a decade-old active legal practice.
“I ultimately realised that, to make a positive change, I must take part in the direct decision-making process for my people. Armed with this sacred truth, I have stood up and girded my loins in humble answer to the solemn call of my people to represent them at the Benue State House of Assembly come 2027,” Ayati told TNT.
In inviting his friends and associates and the entire people of Ukum State Constituency to support the call, Ayati reckons that though party and political interests may vary, “the overall goal should be to deliver the dividends of democracy, good governance and development to our people.
“In this and by this, we should unite.”
