Super Eagles cruise to Afcon Quarter-finals

Date:

Nigeria’s Super Eagles delivered an emphatic statement at the Complexe Sportif de Fès tonight, overwhelming Mozambique 4-0 to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

The Round of 16 encounter was a display of sheer clinical efficiency, as Nigeria’s star-studded attack dismantled the Mambas’ defence.

Nigeria’s victory was built on the back of incredible synergy between Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, and Sevilla’s Akor Adams, who all contributed significantly to the scoreline.

The Super Eagles took control of the game, with Lookman putting Nigeria in the lead in the 20th minute, courtesy of a well-placed assist from Adams. The provider-scorer relationship proved vital again just five minutes later, as Adams registered his second assist of the night, setting up Osimhen in the 25th minute to double Nigeria’s lead.

Nigeria refused to slow down after the break, with Osimhen securing his brace in the 47th minute following an assist from Ademola Lookman.

The rout was completed in the 75th minute when the roles reversed; this time, Lookman turned playmaker to assist Akor Adams, allowing the Sevilla forward to cap off his Man of the Match-contending performance with a goal of his own.

With a clean sheet and four goals in the bag, the Super Eagles now move on to the quarter-finals. They will remain in Morocco to face either Algeria or DR Congo.

In the current form, Nigeria remains one of the heavy favourites to lift the continental trophy.
