Emmiwuks departs Mauritania for Nigeria

Date:

Nigerian cyclist Emmanuel Myam, a.k.a. Emmiwuks, who is on a bicycle journey to the United States of America from Lagos, Nigeria (NIG2USA), has announced that he is on his “way back to Nigeria.”

Emmiwuks departed Nigeria for the US in July 2025 and has crossed 12 international borders before suspending his adventure to return to Nigeria.

On Day 181 of the trip, in faraway Mauritania, he announced his decision to return to Nigeria, marking the end of “phase one” of the journey.

“When I got to Mauritania, I had to pause and make a tough call to head back to Nigeria and sort out some important things: my documents, medical treatment, visa interviews, and a few other necessary matters,” the adventurist wrote on his verified Meta account.

From the pictures he has shared, Emmiwuks has already boarded his flight for the return journey.

It is learnt that his USA visa interview is scheduled for 29th January in Lagos, Nigeria. His Schengen interview is also expected in January, in Nigeria.

“Realistically, instead of pushing further and risking my health, I’ve decided that it may be wiser to park the bicycle here and begin my journey back to Nigeria, maybe with buses, so I don’t miss these critical appointments,” Emmiwuks had explained.

The Benue-born is riding to America, raising awareness and support for vulnerable orphan children and internally displaced persons (IDPs) kids who’ve lost their homes, families, and safety due to conflict and crisis in Nigeria and across Africa.

Barring any changes, he said the bicycle trip to America will continue in February this year.
