BIDC begins digital mapping of Benue borders for enhanced security

Date:

Benue Digital Infrastructure Company PLC (BDIC) has commenced satellite data analysis and digital border mapping of Benue and its neighbouring states. Mr. Gbande Hembaor Terwase, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BIDC, described the development as a bold move to address the persistent insecurity challenges across Benue State by providing real-time access to satellite data.

The exercise, which was conducted in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Friday, June 20, 2025, was done in collaboration with Proforce Galaxies, a leading space and drone intelligence firm.

Mr. Gbande says the exercise utilised high-resolution satellite imaging and drone reconnaissance to identify security hotspots and vulnerable entry points along Benue’s expansive borders.

He told TNT that the development is predicated on the “firm passion and desire” of Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Executive Governor of Benue State, to “integrate digital technology in all aspects of Benue economy.”

“BDIC has intensified efforts to integrate real-time satellite surveillance, drone intelligence, and digital signal mapping into the state’s emerging Base Stations and Command & Control Centre currently under development in Makurdi,” he went on.

According to Mr. Gbande, the mission, which has already been 70% completed, will empower security operatives and trained Benue youth in crisis-affected areas with real-time situational awareness, intelligent surveillance, and coordinated response capabilities. This represents a technological leap by the Benue State Government to manage internal security operations in the state.

“This is not just a tech deployment — it is a new digital security architecture built on precision, foresight, and digital innovation. The infrastructure being deployed will seamlessly integrate with national security systems and support local intelligence in rural communities.

“With this bold digital strategy, Benue State is setting a national precedent on how technology can secure lives, defend territorial integrity, and restore hope in vulnerable regions. It is not just a project — it is a mission of survival, resilience, and digital transformation,” Mr. Gbande explained.
