Locals have identified the assassin of the Commander of Hunters Group, Tarka Area Command, as Saater Aii, an ex-convict. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benue State Command, DSP Udeme Edet, has said in a statement.
The PPRO described as “misleading information circulating in the social media about an imagined herdsmen attack on Wannune in Tarka Local Government Area,” wherein Mr. Aondoakaa Yayough, the hunter’s commander, was killed.
It emerged on Friday, June 20, when Mr. Yayough was killed by armed men suspected to be herdsmen.
According to DSP Udeme, though the suspect managed to escape, local security disarmed him.
Detectives are on the trail of the fleeing felon. Police have recovered an AK-47 rifle used in the attack,” the PPRO said, adding that “Investigation is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.”
