The Benue State Police Command says one Abdullahi Usman, 23, of Awe, Nasarawa State, has been arrested in connection with the murder of Prof Gabriel Nyityo, 58, and his brother, Iorngee John Nyityo, 19.
Dr Nyityo, a former Head of Department of History and Strategic Studies at Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University Makurdi (MOAUM) and professor of history, was killed in his Makurdi residence on Tuesday, July 7.
DSP Udeme Edet, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the command, says police operatives met “two dead bodies” on arrival at the scene of the crime, having received “a distress call.”
The PPRO says, “Investigation is still going on to get the remaining suspect.”
She did not comment on the motive for the crime.
The killing of Prof Nyityo adds to the growing list of academics killed in Benue State.
