Police deny withdrawal of Mobile Operatives from Ayilamo

Date:

The Benue State Police Command has denied reports that Mobile Police operatives withdrew from Ayilamo, Logo Local Government Area, amid fears of renewed attacks by armed bandits.

Residents had raised the alarm after a detachment of Mobile Police personnel reportedly moved out of the community with their belongings and an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) at about 8pm on Wednesday.

However, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Peter Orchia, dismissed the report as false, insisting that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed alongside divisional police and other tactical teams.

DSP Orchia added that the military had deployed additional personnel to reinforce security in the area, urging residents to disregard what he described as misleading information.

Despite the police denial, traditional ruler Zaki Samuel Tokper disclosed that farmers in the area could no longer access their farms on the outskirts of Ayilamo due to insecurity.
