The Benue State Environmental Sanitation Authority (BENSESA) is considering a strategic partnership with Ikay Farm and Integrated Services to deploy Indigenous Microorganism (IMO) technology to improve waste management and environmental sanitation across the state.
TNT understands that the proposed collaboration would explore the use of the technology to reduce offensive odours around waste collection points and drainage systems, accelerate organic waste decomposition, and promote cleaner, healthier communities.
The initiative was discussed on Wednesday, October 21, when a representative of Ikay Farm and Integrated Services, Mrs Ayaka Sylvia Msuur, paid a courtesy visit to BENSESA General Manager, Mr Anta Igbaato, at the authority’s headquarters in Makurdi.
Msuur told Igbaato that her organisation was seeking to collaborate with BENSESA to complement the agency’s waste management efforts through the application of IMO technology, which she said could improve environmental sanitation, according to a statement dated October 21 by Daniel Gesa, Media Aide to the General Manager.
Responding, Igbaato welcomed the initiative, describing it as consistent with BENSESA’s mandate to protect public health and maintain a clean environment.
He said the proposed solution would undergo thorough laboratory analysis and field testing to determine its efficacy, safety, and suitability for Benue State’s environment before any agreement was reached.
Igbaato reaffirmed the authority’s commitment, under Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s administration, to exploring innovative and sustainable approaches to environmental sanitation.
The proposed partnership could provide an additional tool for tackling persistent waste-related challenges in the state, subject to the outcome of the scientific assessments.
