Akpabio denies promising Senators return tickets

Date:

President of the Senate, Senator Godswil Akpabio, has distanced himself from claims in some sections of the media (not TNT) that he promised to secure senatorial tickets for lawmakers who lost their party primaries.

The President of the Senate, in a statement by his media adviser, Mr Eseme Eyiboh, said the reports are false as he did not make or authorise any such promise.

According to the statement, what Senator Akpabio actually told his colleagues was that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is working to resolve issues from the primaries and that the final list of candidates will be released in line with party rules.

The statement said Senator Akpabio remains committed to party discipline and will not interfere with the APC’s internal processes.

More than 20 senators and over 50 members of the House of Representatives failed to secure return tickets in the just-concluded party primaries.
