President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) has appointed serving All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and the party’s governorship candidates in non-APC states as coordinators of his 2027 presidential campaign across the country.
The appointments are contained in the expanded membership list of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election, released by the Presidency on Saturday, August 22.
For Benue State, Governor Fr. Hyacinth Alia, who is also the APC governorship candidate, was named State Campaign Coordinator.
Other Benue indigenes and political figures listed in the council include Comrade Ogenyi Opkokwu, who was named Zonal Secretary, Support Group Coordination, North-Central; Chief Stephen Lawani, Zonal Secretary for Stakeholders’ Mobilisation, North-Central; and former Senate President, Senator Ameh Ebute, who was listed under Parliamentary Mobilisation.
Under the arrangement, governors of APC-controlled states will serve as State Campaign Coordinators, while APC governorship candidates in states controlled by opposition parties will coordinate the presidential campaign in their respective states.
The development places governors and governorship candidates at the centre of the party’s grassroots mobilisation and electioneering efforts ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The 223-member Presidential Campaign Council is chaired by President Tinubu, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda serving as Vice Chairmen I and II, respectively.
Senator Abdulaziz Yari is the Director-General, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, is the Secretary.
Other principal officers include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The council has directorates covering election planning and monitoring, finance, fundraising, policy and manifesto development, legal affairs, media and strategic communication, security and intelligence, data management, youth and women mobilisation, persons with disabilities, sports, extractive industries, education, manufacturing and MSMEs.
It also includes directorates for support-group coordination, faith-based mobilisation, protocol, labour union relations, special duties, stakeholders’ mobilisation, community support, digital operations, grassroots engagement and welfare.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was named Director of Finance/Treasurer, while Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun will head the fundraising directorate.
Former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje is Director of Stakeholders’ Mobilisation, while former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola was named Zonal Coordinator for Stakeholders’ Mobilisation in the South-West.
The council also gives a prominent role to state-level campaign structures. In addition to the State Campaign Coordinator, each state structure will comprise the APC State Executive Committee, serving ministers from the state, National and State Assembly candidates, elected APC local government chairmen or LGA campaign council chairmen, as well as coordinators of various campaign directorates.
These include grassroots engagement and mobilisation, agro-commodities, humanitarian affairs, stakeholder relations, contact and mobilisation, youth, women, persons with disabilities, welfare and creative arts.
The council further provides for the participation of all members of the Presidential Campaign Council and other critical stakeholders considered necessary in each state.
At the national level, former political office holders and prominent party figures have also been assigned roles in parliamentary mobilisation, legal affairs, security, contact mobilisation and stakeholder engagement.
The council’s media and strategic communication structure includes senior government and party figures such as Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris, Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka.
The expanded structure is designed to give the Tinubu campaign a broad-based political, grassroots, and sectoral mobilisation network ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
