Lawyer advocates farming as path to food security, economic growth

Date:

A legal practitioner with a passion for electoral, corporate and commercial law, Mr. Aondongu Abel Adeke, has urged Nigerians, particularly professionals, to embrace farming as a practical means of promoting food security, creating wealth, and supporting national economic development.

Mr. Adeke, who combines legal practice with the cultivation of rice, groundnut, maize, cassava, and yams, while also expanding into tree crops and livestock production, said agriculture has remained an integral part of his life despite the demands of his profession.

Speaking exclusively with TNT, the lawyer explained that his interest in farming was inspired by his father, who introduced him to agriculture at an early age. He noted that the values and practical knowledge he inherited have sustained his commitment to farming over the years.

According to him, agriculture remains indispensable to Nigeria’s development, stressing that increased participation in crop cultivation and livestock production would significantly boost food output and strengthen national food security. He maintained that everyone with access to land should regard farming as a meaningful contribution to the country’s growth.

Mr. Adeke observed that farming has also become an important source of additional income, complementing his earnings from legal practice. He described agriculture as a worthwhile investment that provides economic resilience despite the challenges associated with the sector.

He encouraged professionals from all walks of life to emulate successful businessmen such as Aliko Dangote by diversifying into agriculture alongside their primary careers. According to him, combining professional pursuits with farming is both practical and rewarding.

The legal practitioner added that increased private investment in agriculture would not only improve individual livelihoods but also complement government efforts aimed at achieving sustainable food security, job creation, and long-term economic growth.
