BSUAST: With global aspirations, we’re creating an interconnected network of polymathic innovation – VC

Date:

The pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology (BSUAST), Ihugh, Prof. Qrisstuberg Amua, has said that, instead of isolated faculties and departments, BSUAST is creating an interconnected network of polymathic innovation institutes rooted in local strengths and global aspirations.

In a post on the university’s Facebook page, Prof. Amua said what he and his “excellent colleagues at UAST Ihugh” are building is different because it does not separate learning, research, and production.

According to Prof. Amua, at BSUAST, “scholars shall learn by solving real problems and making useful things.”

“Many do not attempt this because systems are rigid and reward theory, certificates and titles over skills, practice, and solutions. But my colleagues and I understand these limits and how to move beyond them.

“We are building a polymathic model where learning supports itself and young people imagine and aspire to become innovators and creators, not just job seekers,” the VC said.

He explained that 27 years of teaching, research, and leadership development across Nigerian public and private universities, as well as at Queen’s University Belfast, have shaped his conviction that knowledge matters only when it becomes useful in people’s lives.
