Supporters of Prof. Kohol Iornem have dismissed fears over his substitution as the APC candidate for Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency, insisting that his 2027 ticket remains intact.
The supporters, under the Kohol Nen Alia movement, converged on Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Wednesday, September 23, to reaffirm their commitment to Prof. Kohol’s House of Representatives bid and the re-election of Fr. Hyacinth Alia as Benue State.
The group was formed to mobilise support for Iornem’s election to the House of Representatives and Governor Alia’s re-election in the 2027 general elections.
Prof. Kohol emerged winner of the APC primary election for Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency, but the subsequent substitution of his name triggered a legal battle.
Despite the development, the group expressed confidence that Prof. Kohol’s ticket would be recovered through the courts, urging supporters not to panic or abandon the political project.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman of the assembly, Mr Maurice Tsav, urged members to remain focused, saying the “Prof. Kohol vision” was alive and must be sustained.
Mr Tsav charged the supporters to return to their communities with renewed confidence and continue mobilisation ahead of the 2027 election.
Former Mbagwa State Constituency aspirant, Mr Thomas Tarbunde, urged the group to sustain the campaign for Prof. Kohol, saying the message must continue to spread while the legal process runs its course.
Mr Tarbunde said that by the time the court processes were concluded, the message for the election of the APC candidate for Kwande/Ushongo would have gained sufficient ground among the electorate.
The group subsequently reaffirmed its commitment to the Kohol political project, declaring that the ongoing legal battle would not weaken its resolve to pursue the mandate.
