BNSG inaugurates 500,000L capacity water plant for Naka

Date:

The Benue State Government on Wednesday, February 18, inaugurated a 500,000L-capacity water treatment plant for Naka, the headquarters of Gwer West Local Government Area (LGA). Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Sam Ode, represented the Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, at the inauguration ceremony.

The water treatment plant is funded by the European Union (EU) through ECHO, in partnership with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Benue State Government (BNSG).

Gwer West LGA suffers from perennial water scarcity, and the project is expected to improve access to potable water for displaced persons and local communities.

Mr Ior Ikyereve, Deputy Chief Press Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, said 600 shelters at the new Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp were handed over to the IDPs.

According to Mr Ior, the shelters, funded by ECHO, are part of a larger project targeting a total of 960 units, with ongoing work on the remaining 360.
