Gbenda distributes food items, cash to youth, women

Date:

The Senior Special Assistant to Benue State Governor Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on Youth Organisations and Illegal Levies, Mr. Gbenda Terver has distributed food items and cash support to youth and women organisations drawn from the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state. The distribution took place on Tuesday, July 21, at the basketball court, Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi, where beneficiaries gathered to receive the intervention.

The items distributed included 100 bags of maize and 100 bags of cassava flour, alongside cash donations to beneficiaries.

Mr. Gbenda said the intervention was designed to cushion the economic hardship often experienced during the June and July periods, adding that the support formed part of efforts to provide relief to vulnerable groups across the state.

The governor’s senior aide said the initiative was inspired by his desire to complement the human, infrastructural, and economic development programmes of the Fr. Alia administration. He commended the governor’s leadership, describing his achievements across different sectors as evidence of purposeful governance aimed at improving the lives of Benue people.

Mr. Gbenda explained that the current beneficiaries represented the second phase of the programme, assuring that additional youth and women groups would be captured in subsequent phases. He stressed the importance of supporting government efforts to alleviate hardship, particularly among young people and women, whom he described as critical to the state’s development.

He, therefore, called on youth and women across the state to continue supporting the Fr. Alia administration and work towards the governor’s reelection, saying continuity would consolidate the gains already recorded in infrastructure and human capital development.

The event featured the distribution of food items and cash to beneficiaries as they expressed support for the administration through solidarity songs.
