Like a Mac Girland character in a James Hadley Chase novel, Elder Maurice Tsav can always be counted on to take the difficult path; not because it is popular, but because he follows his convictions and trusts his instincts.
Elder Tsav is widely known for his enduring maxim: “Let the mighty fight their own cause.”
It was from him that I first learned that conviction, not money, is what truly matters. He often said, “I don’t know, but I don’t fight for the mighty.” Those words became more than a slogan; they became a philosophy of life.
He has consistently committed himself to causes he believes are just, especially when they serve the public interest. There were moments when those close to him wished he had chosen the easier road so there would be more food on the table.
Yet, time and again, he chose principle over comfort and integrity over convenience.
One of the distinguished products of Prof. David Iornem’s “school of journalism,” Elder Tsav has carved a unique niche for himself. He weathered storms and stood firm, creating an alternative platform for information, education, and entertainment when many would have given up.
Prof. Kohol Iornem, the APC flagbearer for the 2027 Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency election, aptly describes him as “a man of wisdom, influence, and deep community spirit whose contributions have positively impacted many lives.”
There was a time when Elder Tsav declared that he was nobody’s “chicken.” He made that statement in the face of threats and attacks on his person and property. He survived those trials, though not without scars.
Yet, remarkably, he harbours no bitterness toward anyone.
His testimony remains one of gratitude: “Thank You, Mighty God, for Your grace that has taken me this far on my life’s journey. I’m most grateful to You, Lord,” he wrote on his 64th birthday anniversary.
“It can only be You, God,” he sums it all up.
For all he has done and continues to do, in the service of the public, we join Prof. Kohol Iornem in praying that God grants him good health, abundant grace, renewed strength, divine wisdom, and many more years of fruitful service to his community and humanity.
For those of us privileged to have learned under his guidance, we thank Jehovah for the life of a man who inspired us to always put the interests of others before our own.
