The Founder and Executive Director of Mzehemen U Tiv Foundation (MUTF), Prof. Kohol Shadrach Iornem, has called for intensified security surveillance to check unprovoked attacks against local farmers in Benue State.
Prof. Iornem made the call while reacting to the news of Tuesday, January 3, unprovoked terrorist attacks on the harmless people of Abande community, Turan, in Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State. No fewer than five persons, including a police officer, have been killed in the attack.
The MUTF founder, who expressed sadness over the incident, is concerned that several communities around Kwande Local Government Area (LGA) and now Abande have come under serial attacks by terrorists who usually open fire on innocent people.
He described the attacks as barbaric, inhuman, and an assault on humanity while extending his “sincere condolences to the families of the victims, the Abande community, and the entire Kwande people at this painful time.”
Prof. Iornem acknowledged Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia for swiftly rising to the occasion, assuring the peace-loving people of Benue State that the government will not relent in its duty to protect lives and property.
He noted that the governor’s prompt directive to relevant security agencies to intensify operations in the affected areas and go after the perpetrators with all available resources has helped restore safety to the communities and rekindle hope that such attacks will be decisively prevented.
Prof. Iornem therefore urged the people to remain united, hopeful, and resilient in this moment of grief.
