Again, Mkor arraigned for cyber crimes

The suspended Special Adviser to the Governor of Benue State on Research and Documentation, Dr Aondona Mkor, has been granted bail after he was arraigned for cyber stalking, cyber bullying, and an act capable of causing public disturbance.

His Worship Regina Alashi, Esq, of Chief Magistrate Court (CMC) 1, granted Dr Mkor bail after hearing arguments from the respective counsel for and against his bail application.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) obtained by TNT, Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor of Benue State had in a letter of complaint dated November 9, 2025 and addressed to the Commissioner of Police Benue State Command stated that Dr. Mkor “made a highly defamatory and injurious publication on his Facebook wall, WhatsApp, and other social media platforms” that he Sir Kula “paid some persons to blackmail the governor.”

The CPS further alleged that Dr Mkor “called him an illiterate, bed wetter, and incompetent to hold the office of Chief Press Secretary and was banned from coming to Government House because of gross misconduct by the Governor”

Sir Kula also alleged that Dr Mkor’s social media utterances damaged his reputation, thereby amounting to hatred, undermined his integrity, and likely breached the peace.

The acts, according to the prosecution, violate Sections 393 and 116 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue State 2004 and Sections 24(2)(a), 24(2)(b), and 24(2)(c) of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition/Prevention) Act 2015 (as amended).

No plea was taken on the ground of want of jurisdiction.

Abraham Aruta, Esq, appeared for Dr Mkor, while Daniel Sorkaa, Esq, and his friend Desmond Wende, Esq, appeared for Sir Kula.

Dr Mkor was picked at the Command headquarters of the Nigeria Police in Makurdi, Benue State capital, after he was alleged to have bribed senior police officers to ensure the detention of a famous Benue humanitarian, Mr Ukan Kurugh and the CPS.

This is not the first time Dr Mkor has been arraigned on charges bordering on cybercrime.

He would return in court on March 8 for trial, the trial Magistrate ruled.
