Benue SEC approves ₦2.9b for former BSU

Date:

The Benue State Executive Council (SEC) has approved over ₦2.9 billion for the payment of arrears of allowances to staff of the Father Adasu University (formerly Benue State University (BSU)), Makurdi, and the university’s College of Health Sciences.

The Benue State Government, the management of Father Adasu University, led by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simon Terver Ubwa, and the university-based unions (ASUU, SSANU, NASU and NAAT), recently reached an agreement on the immediate implementation of the issues that have caused industrial disharmony at the university dating back to 2018.

Dr Peter Oboh Egbodo, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, who briefed journalists at the end of the Council meeting presided over by the Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on Wednesday, November 5, said the decision reflects the commitment of the Benue State Government to promoting education as a vital tool for social development.

TNT understands that university staff received their October 2025 salaries under the new state wage structure, with their arrears of allowances expected this week, in fulfilment of the agreement.

Commenting on the N100b loan recently approved by the State Assembly, Dr Egbodo said the facility is specifically intended to finance ongoing infrastructural projects and will be managed with utmost transparency.

Under the loan arrangement, payments will not be made directly to government coffers but to contractors from the issuing bank, based on verified certificates of work done, Dr Egbodo explained.
