Benue State Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has approved the immediate implementation of the contending issues that have caused industrial disharmony at the Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM) since 2018, Mr. Barnabas Hemba, MAUA
The university’s Registrar has stated in a press release.
The decision, TNT, follows negotiations between the government team led by the Secretary to the State Government, Dcns. Serumun Deborah Aber, Esq., the management of MOAUM, led by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simon Terver Ubwa, and the university-based unions (ASUU, SSANU, NASU, and NAAT).
According to the statement, the governor’s approval includes the immediate and complete implementation of the newly approved minimum wage template as presented by the unions, the immediate payment of arrears of the Minimum Wage from November 2023 to date, and the proper placement and payment of salary entitlements to previously promoted staff of the University.
It adds that the Fr. Alia government is committed to paying the arrears of all deferred promotion entitlements to deserving staff, as the accumulated promotion entitlements from 2018 will be settled at a later date.
The above changes will take effect immediately, starting with the October 2025 salaries, it was learnt.
Last week, leaders of the Nsukka Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) visited MOAUM for an interaction regarding the welfare issues of its members.
A senior faculty member of the university told TNT that he has already received his October 2023 salary based on the newly approved minimum wage template as presented by ASUU, MOAUM chapter.
TNT learnt that efforts have been intensified to recruit a new Vice-Chancellor for MOAUM.
