Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) is due to visit Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy) has said in a statement.
The visit of the President, according to the statement, is “part of renewed efforts to foster peace and address the persistent conflict affecting communities in the state.”
President Tinubu, during the visit, will meet with all stakeholders—including traditional rulers, political, religious, community leaders, and youth groups—to seek lasting solutions to the hostilities.
Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, is already in the state, ahead of Wednesday visit by the President.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Defence Committees will also be in the state preparatory to the visit by PBAT.
Local sources say over 200 people have been killed in one single night attack on Yelwata, a Benue community close to Nasarawa State, sparking widespread outrage.
