Why Adasu university management granted Prof. Iorapuu leave

Date:

The Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University (formerly Benue State University) Makurdi, Prof. Joe Tor Iorapuu, has gone on combined leave. He was appointed as the sixth Vice-Chancellor of the university in 2020, and his tenure is due to run its full course later this year.

Dr. Bibiana Ayabam, the university’s Information and Public Relations Head, said in a statement that Prof. Iorapuu has been granted annual and overseas leave with the approval of the Governing Council.

The development is effective on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

Professor Simon Terver Ubwa, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), is therefore appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with university regulations.

The statement further urged “members of the university community and the general public to disregard any information not conveyed through the official channels or platforms of the institution.”

As Vice Chancellor, the University of Jos-trained Professor of Applied and Social (Development) Theatre introduced reforms to liberalise the university, including erecting new faculties, such as Architecture, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Technology, and Communication and Media Studies.

His tenure also attracted One Million Dollars in funding and introduced community service on the university campus for students caught in acts of examination malpractice.

The name of the university was also changed under his tenure.

  1. He has done his best as a human being and there is time for everything. It’s also true that he may not have pleased everyone, his tenure may have touched some others positively too.
