Benue APC Caretaker committee rejects judgment sacking it, files appea

Date:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Unified Caretaker Committee, in Benue State led by the Chairman, Dr. Benjamin Omale, has rejected a court judgment, nullifying it’s legality.

A Seven man unified Caretaker committee had been constituted for APC Benue State by the APC National Working Committe (NWC), following internal crisis over leadership and legal and counter legal actions.

However, in a judgment in one of the suits on Thursday, 28th November, 2024, in Makurdi, the Benue State capital by Justice Timothy Kume, the court nullified the Seven man committee. The suit was initiated by the embatled Austin Agada, in challenging the dissolution of his committee by the NWC.

Justice Kume, in the judgment held that the dissolution of the Agada led state working committee was not in accordance with the Constitution of the party, amounting to gross violation of the rights of fair hearing.

In a swift reaction to the judgment, Dr. Omale says his committee expresses “serious concerns on the judgment,” and has instructed its “legal team to immediately appeal the judgment and seek for a stay of execution on the said judgment.”

Dr. Omale, in a statement obtained by TNT says his committee finds the judgment as “appalling, legally unjustified and we feel that the Court of Appeal will ensure justice is served.

“In the meantime, as law abiding citizens, we call on the entire members of our party to be calm, law abiding and go about their political activities without worries as the status quo remains until the Superior Courts speak on the issue.

“Our committee will work assiduously within the four corners of the law for our party as we exercise our Constitutional rights of appeal and abide by all orders of the court.

“The High Court has spoken, we shall proceed to the Court of Appeal.”
