Fr. Alia sues for cooperation as Nigeria’s Army chief relocates to Benue

Date:

Benue State Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has appealled to the people of the state to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and continue to provide credible information that can aid their operations.

The governor made the appeal when he received the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.

The Army chief is in Benue State alongside his Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) and top military leadership to restore peace following the incessant killings of the people of the state by armed herdsmen.

“Together, we will overcome these challenges and usher in a new era of peace and security,” the Governor assured, while praying God to protect the “people and bless the land of Benue!”

The governor, who commended the COAS and the Nigerian Army for the “bold and proactive step” said that the people of Benue “deserve protection, justice, and peace.”

According to Fr. Alia, his government remains fully committed to supporting all lawful efforts aimed at ending the senseless killings and restoring peace across all affected communities.

Already, Lieutenant General Oluyede, has ordered the deployment of additional troops to the state. In addition to holding high-level strategy meetings with all field commanders, General Oluyede will also visit attacked communities, boost morale of troops, and lead from the front lines.

Scores have been killed in Benue State in the last seven days, since the resurgence of killings by armed herdsmen.
