Nigeria international and Super Falcons forward, Francisca Ordega, has expressed profound gratitude to Benue State Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, for fulfilling the promises he made to her following Nigeria’s triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Ordega, an indigene of Benue State, said the governor had demonstrated integrity by redeeming his promises of a N50 million reward, a three-bedroom bungalow in Makurdi and the naming of a street after her in the state capital.
In an emotional appreciation message dated Sunday, November 1, the football star described Fr. Alia as “my father and my governor,” saying she was overwhelmed with gratitude for the governor’s decision to honour his commitments.
She particularly described the house as more than just a building, saying it represented a home and lasting legacy that would give her family dignity.
According to her, the proposed street naming would also serve as a source of inspiration to young girls in Benue, reminding them that they could rise from their communities to achieve greatness on the global stage.
“Sir, you have shown that you are a priest not only on the pulpit but also a man of integrity in governance. In a time when many promises are made and forgotten, you remembered your daughter,” Ordega said.
The Super Falcons star, who has consistently represented Nigeria on the international football stage, pledged to continue making Benue State proud, while praying for God’s guidance and blessings for the governor as he steers the affairs of the state.
She signed off her message with the Tiv expression, “Sha kpôr yô Alia doo”, in appreciation of the governor.
Ordega’s message comes as a recognition of the importance of honouring sporting achievements and rewarding athletes whose performances have brought honour to their states and country.
