The Benue State Police Command has debunked reports that a medical doctor and owner of a hospital in Makurdi, Dr Ogbaji, was abducted from his medical facility.
The clarification follows claims circulating that Dr. Ogbaji had been abducted at his medical facility in Makurdi, triggering concern among residents.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benue State Command, DSP Peter Orchia, told journalists on Thursday, September 24, that the doctor was arrested, not abducted, by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) attached to the Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja.
DSP Orchia said the operatives arrested the doctor at his hospital on Wednesday in connection with an ongoing investigation.
“The Command has received enquiries regarding reports of the alleged abduction of a medical doctor and owner of a hospital in Makurdi.
“Upon verification, the report is false. The doctor was not abducted. He was arrested yesterday at his hospital by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) attached to the Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja, in connection with an ongoing investigation,” the PPRO said.
He, however, said the Benue Command was not aware of the specific circumstances surrounding the investigation, as the matter was being handled by the FID in Abuja.
The police urged members of the media and the public to disregard the abduction report, describing it as false.
