2027: Kaduna Gov picks a Christian as running mate, cites inclusion, merit

Date:

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has announced the nomination of the Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Mr. Jerry Adams, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

Senator Uba says the choice is a reaffirmation of his administration’s commitment to inclusion, justice, fairness and equitable governance.

The governor made the announcement in a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, July 28, saying the decision followed “wide consultations, deep reflection and earnest prayers.”

He stressed that the nomination was more than the selection of a deputy governorship candidate; it was a demonstration of the values that have guided his administration since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

According to Senator Uba, Kaduna’s religious, ethnic and cultural diversity remains its greatest strength, noting that his administration has spent the past three years fostering peace, healing divisions and ensuring that development reaches every part of the state. He said investments in roads, schools, healthcare, water supply, agriculture, rural development and social protection across the 23 local government areas were guided by the principle that no community should be left behind.

The governor said improved collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders, community organisations, women and youth groups had strengthened peace and security, enabling farmers to return to their fields, businesses to expand and investments to grow. He maintained that lasting peace could only be sustained through fairness, inclusion and equal opportunity.

Explaining his choice of running mate, the governor described Adams as an accomplished public servant, outstanding tax administrator and institution builder who transformed the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service into one of Nigeria’s leading revenue agencies. He said Adams’ leadership had strengthened the state’s fiscal capacity, allowing greater investment in education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture and other critical sectors.

He also praised Adams for his integrity, humility, and commitment to peace, reconciliation, and inclusive governance, adding that his nomination reflects the administration’s resolve to ensure that merit, competence, and character remain the basis for leadership. The governor urged residents of Kaduna State to embrace the decision as a step toward building a more united, peaceful and prosperous state, irrespective of religion, ethnicity or geographical differences.
