Fr. Alia donates birthday proceeds to Benue IDPs

Date:

Benue State Governor Fr. Hyacinth Alia has donated proceeds from the triads of his 60th birthday anniversary, Benue at 50, and the third anniversary of his administration to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

The governor made the declaration during his remarks after the interdenominational service, the last leg of events commemorating the anniversaries at Ibrahim Babangida (IB) Square, Makurdi, on Sunday, June 28.

Last year, he donated the proceeds from his birthday to orphanages in the state.

This year, the governor requested that those with gifts for him channel them to the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), including the One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N150,000,000.00) already presented to him for the IDPs.

Thousands of Benue local farmers are still living in IDP camps, having been displaced from their homes by the armed wing of cattle owners.

Whereas Benue State clocked 50 this year since its creation on February 3, 1976, Fr. Alia turned 60 on May 15 and had been in office as governor for three years on May 29. All the milestones were celebrated through a week-long series of activities that attracted Very Important Persons (VIPs) across Nigeria.
