Beware of Herods, Fr. Melladu tells Benue Governor

Date:

The Chairman of the Christians’ Pilgrims Welfare Board, Makurdi, Fr. Michael Melladu, has asked Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Governor of Benue State, to beware of those he referred to as “Herods.”

Herod the Great, it was he who ordered the killing of infants during Bible times for fear that the newly born Jesus would eventually threaten his rule as the “King of the Jews.”

Celebrating mass at the Interdenominational service marking the combined anniversary of Benue at 50, Fr. Alia at 60, and the third anniversary of the Fr. Alia administration, Fr. Melladu likened people who are incensed that others are succeeding to “Herod.”

According to Fr. Melladu, some of the governor’s performing appointees may be harshly criticised by the “Herods” so that they are perceived as a threat to the achievement of his vision for the state.

The priest urged the governor to enable his appointees to be a blessing to others so that his good works for the state would be noticeable to all.
