Rivers APC governorship candidate resigns as Reps minority leader

Date:

The Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate, Rep. Kingsley Chinda, has resigned as Minority Leader of the House of Representatives after defecting from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He represents Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency and is among several politicians from Rivers State who have recently aligned with the APC amid political realignments in the oil-rich state.

Though Rep Chinda joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) before the primaries, his resignation and defection were announced by the Speaker, Rep Abbas Tajudeen, during plenary on Tuesday, June 2, as the lawmakers resumed legislative activities after a four-week recess.

It is understood that the former Minority Leader had stepped down from the position effective April 23.

The PDP caucus in the House will meet to nominate a new minority leader.
