UAE accuses Iran of missile and drone attacks

Date:

The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE’s) defence ministry says it is defending itself against “missile and drone attacks originating from Iran.”

While Tehran has yet to comment, UAE officials say a drone attack has sparked a large fire at a UAE oil port in Fujairah.

The emirate of Fujairah in the UAE says that a fire has broken out in a major petroleum complex after an Iranian drone attack, with three people injured.

Meanwhile, the US says navy destroyers and US-flagged merchant ships have sailed through the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran claiming that it is “entirely false.”

On Sunday, President Donald Trump said the US would begin helping stranded vessels in the shipping lane.

It is estimated that 20,000 seafarers on 2,000 ships have been stuck since the US-Iran war began in February.
