Benue State Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has directed the immediate recovery of all government lands illegally occupied across the state.
Fr. Alia issued the directive recently during an inspection of ongoing renovation works at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Makurdi, the state capital.
The governor raised concerns over the unauthorised occupation of government property and stressed that his administration will not tolerate such encroachments.
He therefore mandated the Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development, the Office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC) to take all necessary legal and administrative steps to reclaim the affected lands.
Meanwhile, the Group Managing Director (GMD), BIPC Dr Raymond Asemakaha, has called on those holding on to government assets and committing economic sabotage to consider optimising the full performance of those assets, or face revocation by the State Government within 90 days.
