Benue: Troops arrest four, recover AK-47, ammunition

Troops of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Intervention Battalion XI under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) on March 26, arrested three suspected terrorists within Agasha, part of Guma Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State.

The operation is in furtherance of pre-wet season farming operations by the troops to clear identified flash points based on credible intelligence.

Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters OPWS, in a statement issued on March 26, listed the suspects as Mr Sule Ibrahim and Mr. Salmanu Risko, both of Nasarawa State, and Mr. Abdulkareem Haruna of Jos, Plateau State.

According to the statement, items recovered during the operation include one AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines, twenty-seven rounds of 7.62mm x 39 ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, a cutlass, ten sachets of alcohol, and assorted charms.

The suspects have been taken into custody by the troops “for preliminary investigation and subsequent prosecution by the appropriate authorities.”

Major General Moses Gara, Force Commander OPWS, commended the troops for their professionalism, resilience, and continued sacrifice in safeguarding law-abiding citizens in the Joint Operations Area.
