The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has announced suspension of “all deliberations, consultations, or resolutions relating to zoning of positions” in Benue State.
Zoning has been an integral part of the democratic process in Nigeria, but the PDP says there are “emerging discrepancies and misunderstandings arising from discussions on zoning of positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
State Secretary of the party, Comrade Dan Nyikwagh, in a statement issued on Saturday, March 21, says the directive suspending discussions on zoning “shall remain in force pending the release of an official and realistic zoning framework to be approved and communicated by the party through the appropriate organs.”
According to the statement, discussions on zoning are creating avoidable friction between the leadership of the umbrella party and stakeholders, a situation that could cause disunity within the PDP ranks if not properly managed.
It, therefore, urged members of the PDP to remain calm, disciplined, and committed to the unity and progress of the party.
