A Federal High Court sitting at Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has adjourned to January 15, 2026, for the hearing of a Preliminary Objection raised by legal representatives of Prof. Zacharys Anger Gundu, Leader of Tiv Professionals and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mkar Mkar.
The legal team is representing Prof. Gundu in a matter of alleged defamation initiated by the Government of Nasarawa State (GNS) and Engr. Abdullahi Sule (Governor) (Claimants/Applicants).
GNS and Engr. Sule has jointly sued Prof. Gundu over Prof. Gundu’s comments of July 10. They are claiming One Hundred Billion, Five Hundred Million Naira (N100.5b) in damages and litigation costs. The suit is marked as FCT/HC/CV/3554/2025, with Prof. Gundu as the lone defendant.
When the matter came up for first mention on Wednesday, November 26, neither Engr. Sule nor his legal representatives were in court.
Prof. Sebastine Hon, SAN, and his brother learned silk, T. J. Aondo, with M. A. Jacob, Esq.; Prof. M. M. Dura, Esq.; Dr. Adum Ter Alex, Esq.; Kyuga, Esq.; and scores of other lawyers appeared for Prof. Gundu, who was in court.
The lead counsel, Prof. Hon, SAN, in acknowledging receipt of a letter requesting an adjournment from the learned senior counsel representing the Claimants, however, informed the Court about his Notice of Preliminary Objection challenging the jurisdiction of the Honourable Court to entertain the suit.
Prof. Hon, SAN, who did not oppose the application for adjournment, urged the Court to adjourn the matter for the hearing of his preliminary objection, which is already filed.
Consequently, the matter is adjourned to January 15, 2026, for the hearing of the Preliminary Objection on the jurisdiction of the Court to hear and determine the suit.
