The suspected murderer of Charlie Kirk, Tyler Robinson, 22, is in custody.
Kirk, a popular conservative activist, was speaking at a public event at Utah Valley University when he was shot in the neck and pronounced dead hours later in hospital.
Utah Governor, Spencer Cox, revealed the arrest of Robinson.
According to sources, on Thursday, Robinson’s father recognised his son in pictures released by the FBI.
Although Robinson confessed to the crime, he refused his father’s request to hand himself to the authorities, saying he would rather kill himself.
It is understood that Robinson’s father called a youth pastor, who called the US Marshals, who secured Robinson until the FBI took him into custody.
Earlier, Cox said a family member reported Robinson, an electrical apprentice, had become “more political” in recent years. He was, however, not a student at the university where the shooting happened.
Bullet casings were found with inscriptions, including one saying: “Hey fascist! Catch!” Another inscription seemed to be reference to a video game code.
Robinson will be formally charged on Tuesday.
