The Nigeria Police Benue State Command says it has arrested three armed robbery suspects during a stop-and-search operation at Orokam Junction by Obollo Afor Road.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benue State Command, DSP Udeme Edet, in a statement made available to journalists in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, named the suspects as Mujahid Mohammed, 21, Yahaya Abdullahi, 21, and Kalipha Mohammad, 28. They were found in possession of a bag containing 34 handsets of different brands, three (3) HP laptops, and two (2) MP3 players.
The suspects, during the investigation, confessed belonging to a gang of armed robbers who have been terrorising the Orokam community in Benue State and other communities in Enugu State, DSP Udeme said in the statement.
They also confessed to having robbed Six (6) flats at the Umukasi area and Ten (10) flats at St. Theresa Area of Nsukka in Enugu State, and named their ring leader as Abba Mohammed, 27, who is at large to have escaped with their weapons in the course of the arrest.
According to the police statement, efforts are being made in collaboration with Enugu and Gombe State Police Commands to apprehend the suspect at large, prosecute the same after due investigation, and identify the owners of the items.
The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Emenari Ifeanyi, commended the patrol team’s swift action and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements.
