Police arrest 35-year-old Adeshina over murder of commercial driver in Obudu

Date:

The Cross River State Police Command says it has arrested Mr. Adeshina Gilbert, 35, for alleged murder of Mr. Ternenge Iorkyaa Ikpanor, a commercial driver in Obudu, Cross River State.

Mr. Ternenge, a.k.a Agege was last Friday, brutally stoned and macheted to death in the neighbouring town of Obudu, “under circumstances that are not only criminal but also inhuman and barbaric,” the Ikpanor Agege family said in a statement.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Cross River State Command, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the arrest in a statement made available to journalists.

According to the statement, Mr. Ternenge, a native of Mbanyam in Mbatyough Council Ward, Vandeikya Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State, was reportedly attacked and stoned to death while delivering a waybill to an individual in Obudu.

“A disturbing video of the incident, now circulating on social media, shows the inhumane assault carried out by a group of hoodlums,” the PPRO explained in the statement.

The statement quoted the State Commissioner of Police, who condemned the act, describing it as barbaric, gross violation of fundamental human rights and dignity of person. He said the police would go the extra mile to apprehend other suspects who are still on the run.
