The new Pope, Robert Prevost, will be known as Pope Leo XIV.
He was elected to succeed Pope Francis on day two of the conclave.
Pope Leo is the first American pontiff.
The 69 -year -old step out onto the balcony at the Vatican to huge cheers from thousands gathered below.
“Peace be with all of you,” Pope Leo told a cheering crowd.
Cardinals entered the conclave to elect the new Pope on Wednesday, 7th May, with the white smoke emerging on the second day of the conclave.
